What is the best resolution for my photos?
Optimum image size and resolution vary based on your product and design choice. As you build your order we will tell you what the optimum image sizes are for the design you are working on. You will also have the option to resize and/or crop your image.

Please note that we always check the resolution of every photo before you order a print or photo gift. If we think the photo isn't large enough to produce a quality image, we'll let you know.

Is there any charge for uploading?
No. Uploading your digital photos is completely free!

What type of photo file can I upload to my account?
You can copy the following types of digital photos from your computer to your online ADA account:

  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe);
  • TIF

On a Mac, you can copy the following types of digital photos from your computer to your online account:

  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe)

Any digital photo you upload must have an ending that matches one of the above file types (e.g., niagarafalls.jpg). Whichever type of file you use, the copy that you upload will be converted to JPEG format before it's added to your account.

NOTE: Whenever you upload a digital photo to your online account, only a copy of it is placed in your account. The original digital photo file remains unchanged on your computer.

Why can't I see the file extensions on my photo files?
Your computer may be set to hide file extension at the end of file names. If the names of your files don't end with a dot and a three- or four-letter extension (.jpg, .zip, etc.) this setting is easy to change:

For PC users:
  1. Return to your computer's desktop and double click on the 'My Computer' icon.
  2. When the window is open, click on the 'View' menu and choose 'Folder Options.'
  3. Click on the 'View' tab at the top of the window.
  4. Uncheck the box labeled 'Hide file extensions for known file types' and click on the 'OK' button to confirm your change.
  5. You should now see the file extensions at the end of all file names.

For Mac users:

  1. Click on the 'Finder' drop-down menu at the top of your browser window.
  2. Select 'Preferences'.
  3. In the next window, select the 'Advanced' icon.
  4. Check the box next to 'show all file extensions'.

Note: These steps may vary slightly if you have an older Mac operating system

What is resolution?
Resolution is an indication of the quality of your photos. The higher the resolution, the clearer and more detailed your photo -- and the more options you have for printing or creating photo gifts.

Every digital image is made up of pixels, or tiny, light-sensitive squares. The number of pixels determines the resolution. The more pixels your photo has, the clearer your photo remains as you increase its size (for prints) or print it on a gift. At the same time, the greater the resolution, the more memory is required to store the image. Most digital cameras allow you to change the resolution, so you can select the quality of your photos as you take them.
